Leaked internal documents from Dutch public broadcaster NOS reveal that it plans changes in its news programming due to financial constraints. Editor-in-Chief Hans Laroes says that NOS News doesn't have enough money to continue all its current activities. At the same time, the broadcaster will take the opportunity to reorganize and strengthen its core activities.
Among the planned changes are a reduction in its teletext service, and cuts in the number of overseas correspondents. The afternoon edition of the news on Radio 1 will be dropped at weekends, costing eight full time jobs. But NOS will invest more in the morning news programme and other weekend bulletins on on Radio 1, and its flagship 8 pm TV news bulletin.
The plans have still to be discussed with representatives of the staff and senior editors, but it's hoped that they can be put into place by 1 January 2009.
